Pricing

£500 to set up. £250 a month. Nothing hidden.

The setup fee installs Relay and Basin into your own cloud account or datacentre and trains your admins. The monthly fee covers both licences, one Basin node, quarterly updates, security patches and support. Extra Basin nodes are £100 a month each. Nothing is hosted by Tao, so there is no hosting line on the invoice. Prices exclude VAT.

The plan

One plan, both products

Relay and Basin come together on one monthly invoice. The only variable is how many Basin nodes you run, and the first one is included.

£500

One-off setup fee

Installation of Relay and Basin into your cloud account or datacentre, configuration, admin training and go-live support.

£250

Per month

Licences for Relay and Basin, one Basin node, updates and security patches, and ongoing support and assistance.

Plus £100 per additional Basin node, per month

1 node is included. High availability needs 3, so an HA cluster is £250 plus 2 x £100, which is £450 a month. A single-node VM install is the £250 alone.

Prices exclude VAT. Rolling monthly contract, 30 days' notice to cancel, and the first 30 days refundable in full.

Relay includes

  • The Relay licence: standard and custom objects, the workflow builder, REST and GraphQL APIs, and the Kafka-compatible event stream
  • White-labelling: your logo, colours, custom domain, email sending domain, and iOS and Android apps published under your name
  • SSO via SAML 2.0 and OIDC, SCIM provisioning, enforced MFA, and role and field-level permissions
  • An immutable audit log of every read and write, exportable to Splunk, Sentinel or any SIEM
  • Importers for Salesforce, HubSpot and Dynamics 365, and native connectors for Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Twilio, Stripe, DocuSign and Xero
  • Terraform modules for AWS, Azure and GCP
  • Quarterly updates, security patches, and support by email and remote screen-share, 09:00 to 18:00 UK time, one-working-day response

Basin includes

  • The Basin licence with 1 node included; further nodes are £100 a month each
  • The distributed ANSI SQL engine, dashboards, scheduled reports, alerting and the metrics layer
  • More than 60 connectors, including Postgres, SQL Server, Oracle, SAP, and Epic and Cerner over HL7 v2 and FHIR
  • The catalogue, column-level lineage, PHI and PII classification, and row-level and column-level access policies
  • The Helm chart, the single-node installer and the air-gapped install bundle
  • Quarterly upgrades with long-term-support releases supported for 24 months, and the same support by email and remote screen-share

With both: a DPA with Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum, a BAA signed by Tao Systems where PHI is involved, and the compliance document set under NDA, including the SOC 2 Type II report and penetration test summary.

Quoted after a call

  • Reseller networks running Relay for member agencies with thousands of users
  • Very large Basin clusters, quoted per node at a volume rate

Setup fee

What the setup fee covers

The setup fee is £500, charged once with the first payment. It pays for installation and onboarding only: an engineer installs Relay and Basin into your own cloud account or datacentre, configures them, trains your admins and stays on call for go-live. It ends when your team can run the system without us.

For Relay that means a Terraform run into your AWS, Azure or GCP account and a tenant configured with your logo, colours, custom domain and email sending domain. For Basin it means the Helm chart or the single-node installer, connectors pointed at your first sources, and an initial catalogue so the first queries have something to find. The same engineer does both.

It doesn't cover work on your data rather than on the software, and nothing else on this page does either, because Tao sells software and not services. Moving twelve years of records out of an old CRM, or pointing an Epic feed at Basin over HL7 v2, is your team's work with Relay's importers and Basin's connectors. Onboarding covers how to use them, and support is there when you do.

In the setup fee

  • Installing Relay and Basin into your cloud account or datacentre Both
  • Tenant and brand configuration: logo, colours, custom domain, email sending domain, login page Relay
  • Connector configuration and the initial catalogue Basin
  • Admin training sessions for the people who will run it Both
  • Go-live support from the engineers who did the install Both

Software, not services

Tao sells software licences and nothing else. Bespoke engineering, custom integrations and migration projects aren't something Tao offers, at any price. The importers and connectors that do that work are part of the product: Relay imports from Salesforce, HubSpot and Dynamics 365, Basin ships more than 60 connectors, and onboarding covers using them.

Billing

How billing works

Every fee on this page pays for a software licence or the installation and onboarding of that software. There is nothing else to invoice, because Tao sells software and not services.

Billing cycle
Monthly in advance, by card or invoice. The £500 setup fee is charged once, with the first payment, so the first invoice is the setup fee plus the first month and every invoice after that is the monthly fee alone.
Contract and notice
A rolling monthly contract with no annual commitment. Cancel with 30 days' notice by email and the subscription ends at the close of the notice period.
Price changes
The price you sign at is fixed for 12 months. After that we give 60 days' written notice of any change, which is long enough to cancel on 30 days' notice if you'd rather not pay it.
Taxes
Prices exclude VAT. VAT, or sales tax for customers outside the UK, is added at checkout where it applies and shown as a separate line on every invoice, so your finance team can reclaim it where they are entitled to.
Infrastructure costs
Relay and Basin run in your own cloud account or datacentre, so compute, storage and network are billed to you by AWS, Azure, GCP or your own facilities team. None of it passes through Tao and none of it is in our fees.
Invoicing for procurement
Your PO number goes on every invoice, and we complete supplier onboarding forms on request. The contract is with Tao Systems, under the law of England and Wales.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask

The six questions procurement, finance and IT ask on the first call, answered here so the call can be about your deployment instead.

How many Basin nodes do we need?

One is included in the monthly fee, and a single-node install on a VM is enough for a small site or a first project. High availability needs 3 nodes, so an HA cluster is £250 plus 2 x £100, which is £450 a month. Basin scales to multiple petabytes by adding nodes at £100 each, and you can start with one and add the other two later.

What counts as a node?

A node is one machine, virtual or physical, running the Basin services: a Kubernetes worker in the Helm deployment, or the VM in a single-node install. Your object store (MinIO, Ceph, S3, Azure Blob) doesn't count, and neither do the laptops and BI servers that query Basin over JDBC, ODBC or Arrow. We count nodes from the licence key, not by inspecting your cluster, and the key works offline.

Does the number of Relay users change the price?

No, up to a fair-use limit of 250 users. Below that there is no per-user charge and no user line on the invoice. Beyond it, and for reseller networks that run Relay for member agencies with thousands of users, the price is quoted after a call.

What happens when we cancel?

Give 30 days' notice by email. You keep your data, because it already lives in your own environment: Parquet and Iceberg files for Basin, and Relay's database in your own cloud account. There is nothing to export and nothing to request. Tao's access is revoked, and any configuration Tao holds for your account is deleted within 30 days. The full terms are in the refund and cancellation policy.

Can we get our money back if it doesn't work out?

Yes. The first 30 days of the subscription are refundable in full. Tell us by email before the 30 days are up and we refund what you've paid; the software stays in your environment for you to remove and Tao's access is revoked. After the first 30 days, cancellation is 30 days' notice with no refund of the current month. The detail is in the refund policy.

Who runs it day to day?

Your team does. Relay and Basin run on your infrastructure, so your people have the same access to them as to anything else in your cloud account or datacentre, and Tao has none unless you grant it for a session. We install the software, train your admins and support them afterwards by email and remote screen-share, 09:00 to 18:00 UK time, with a one-working-day response. Backups, monitoring and scaling use your cloud provider's or datacentre's own tooling, and both products document how.

Start for £500 and £250 a month.

Tell us which cloud account or datacentre it runs in and how many Basin nodes you want. The setup fee goes on the first invoice, the platform fee follows monthly, and the first 30 days are refundable in full.
